Built-Up Roofing Membrane

Built-up roof membranes, abbreviated BUR, have been used in the United States for more than a century.

These roofs are commonly known as “tar and gravel” roofs. BUR systems are typically made up of alternating layers of bitumen and reinforcing fabrics that combine to form a finished membrane.

The number of plies in a cross-section corresponds to the number of plies on a roof: The term “four plies” refers to constructing a four-ply roof membrane. A base sheet, which serves as the bottommost ply, is sometimes mechanically fastened.

Built-up roofs are generally considered fully adhered if applied directly to roof decks or insulation.

Roofing felts and plies sheets are other names for reinforcing fabrics. Roofing felts fortified with Glass-fiber mats, or organic mats are used to reinforce roofing felts. Felts are manufactured in standard widths of 36 inches and metric widths of approximately one meter.

Built-Up Roofing Systems: How Do They Work?

Layers of bitumen, such as gravel or modified bitumen, alternate with reinforcing fabric on the roof decks to form built-up flat roofs.

A ply roof system is created when a BUR system is installed. The term “ply” refers to the number of layers in the roof membrane. You have a three-ply built-up roof if your BUR roof has three layers of reinforcing fabric, also known as ply sheets.

These fabrics, also known as roofing felts, keep the membrane in place. The first fabric is the base sheet, and it is frequently mechanically attached to the roof deck.

Advantages of Built-Up Roof Systems

Built-up roofs provide numerous advantages that help to keep your flat roof in good condition. BUR systems, for example, are well-sealed, making them waterproof and weather resistant. BUR roofs are also fireproof and resistant to ultraviolet rays.
They also trap heat within your building, preventing it from escaping through the roof. The feature saves energy for both your building and your company. A BUR roof is also a cost-effective roof type because it requires little maintenance and lasts for decades.

Why did you choose Exquisite Roofing?

Built-up roof systems were invented more than a century ago, and Exquisite Roofing has been working for years now. We’ve been installing BUR roofs since they were first introduced, so we’ve seen how BUR roofing methods, techniques, and materials have evolved over the years.
We have a great deal of experience installing and maintaining this type of roof, so you can count on us to deliver excellent results.

Modified Bitumen Roofing
For decades, modified bitumen roofing has been one of the most popular commercial roofing materials. It is one of the best roofing solutions for various building and structure types because it is durable, inexpensive, and can last for decades. They’re also flexible and adaptive. There are various types of modified bitumen roofing and installation methods, all of which our skilled commercial roofers are well-versed.
To learn more about our modified bitumen commercial roofing options, contact Exquisite Roofing.
What is modified bitumen, precisely?
The term “modified bitumen roofing” refers to the base material being bitumen, and ‘modifiers’ are added to it. These modifiers make standard roofing asphalt more robust and more durable.
Which may contain polyester-based fibers or fiberglass Modified bitumen is the first choice of many of our commercial roofing clients because it is inexpensive, durable, and versatile.
Benefits of Modified Bitumen Roofs
There are numerous advantages to using this type of commercial roof system. Here are a few of their main selling points:
  • Reasonably priced
The ease of installing modified bitumen, the availability of the main components, and the fact that it requires little maintenance make this roof system an economical winner. Due to the large surface area required and the value for money obtained, it is a favorite for commercial properties.
  • Long-lasting and dependable
Because a new roofing system is a significant investment, selecting a system that will most likely last you a long time makes sense.
Modified bitumen can withstand the harshest weather conditions, and when the time comes for repairs, they are neither difficult nor expensive to implement.
  • Resilient and long-lasting
One of the most significant costs of a roofing system is not billed at the time of purchase. Instead, costs may arise months or years later if the roof sustains damage. Business owners who plan ahead of time want a durable and resilient roof, and modified bitumen certainly delivers on both counts.

Thermoset Roof Membrane (EPDM)

Having the right roofing solution can make a big difference in the comfort and safety of your workplace. We provide roof installation and repair services at Exquisite Roofing so that you can enjoy the long-lasting performance in any environment.
Try our thermoset roof membrane services, also known as ethylene propylene diene terpolymer (EPDM), to provide your low-slope roof with the necessary protection.
What exactly is the Thermoset EPDM Roof Membrane?
Thermoset roof membrane is a type of synthetic rubber roofing that is commonly used to strengthen commercial structures. This coating is made from a mixture of ethylene and propylene materials.
Professionals can create thermoset roof membranes using a variety of techniques. Depending on your needs, you can attach these materials using mechanical affixation, water and urethane adhesives, or ballasting methods.
A Long-Lasting Thermoset EPDM Roof Membrane for Commercial Uses
When you own a business, you need to be confident in the condition of your roof. Thermoset roof membrane is a robust roof coating that can help you maintain worker and operational security while extending the life of your structure.
If you need a long-lasting roof membrane that requires little maintenance, our EPDM roofing services can help. The following are some of the advantages of using thermoset roof membranes for your business:
  • A longer life expectancy. The material could last for decades, depending on the thickness of your EPDM roof. A 90-mil thick roof, for example, is strong enough to protect your structure for up to 30 years.
  • Weatherproofing. EPDM roofing is made to withstand both hot and cold temperatures. It can also withstand harsh weather conditions such as snow, sleet, wind, and even hail.
  • Insulation. Roofs with thermoset membranes are well-insulated, limiting heat transfer through the structure. Buildings benefit from superior insulation and energy efficiency when using thicker membranes.
  • Simple to set up. Thermoset roof membrane is typically quick and inexpensive to install, making it a popular choice for business owners looking to reduce overall costs. We can determine the best installation method for your building based on its specific requirements.

Thermoplastic Polyolefin (TPO)
TPO is an abbreviation for Thermoplastic Polyolefin, the primary chemical that makes up this roofing membrane. TPO is installed in a single application, eliminating the need for multiple layers. Mechanically attached, adhered, ballasted, and plate bonded are some of the methods available.
TPO membranes are typically available in various colors, the most common of which are white, tan, and grey. Hot-air welding equipment is used to complete seams and flashings in this type of roofing. TPO roofing is highly wind and grease-resistant.
TPO membranes are more robust, durable, and flexible than hot tar roofing. White TPO membranes reflect UV rays and heat from the building, reducing the cost of commercial warehouses, storage facilities, and working and living environments. TPO roofing also requires less maintenance and is resistant to pollutants and chemicals found in the environment.
TPO membranes promote a quiet roof. Its low-odor adhesives and adhesive-less installation options reduce odors that can seep into the interior space, making your building’s occupants happy.
Applications for TPO Roofing
TPO roofing is commonly used on commercial and industrial buildings. Residential buildings can also have it, especially if the owners are looking for heat welded roofing to add extra protection to their properties.
TPO is recommended for roofs subjected to contaminants such as grease or when other single-ply membranes cannot withstand the elements.
TPO Roofing Replacement
If you are thinking about replacing your roof, you should know that TPO is one of the most common materials. This is an excellent material for a heat-reflective, energy-efficient roof.
TPO roofing membranes are also resistant to UV rays, ozone, and chemicals. They have all the advantages of EPDM and PVC roofing, but none of the disadvantages, and at a lower cost.
The only disadvantage of TPO is that it is a relatively new material on the market, making it more challenging to find professionals to handle it properly.
A Long-Lasting and Cost-Effective Option
TPO is more resistant to mold, dirt, water, and punctures than other roofing materials. Reinforced membranes can withstand thermal expansion and contraction on your property, especially in hot and dry climates like those found in many areas.
Another reason why many people prefer TPO roofing is its low cost. TPO is far less expensive than alternatives for both commercial and residential buildings.
For example, you can get the same hot-air weldable seams and energy efficiency as PVC roofing at a lower cost.
Exquisite Roofing will install your TPO roofing. TPO roofing is typically easier to install and requires fewer seams than other types of roofing. This ease of installation typically lowers the installation cost as well. Professionals from Exquisite Roofing are licensed, bonded, and insured.

Poly Vinyl Chloride
Installing Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) Single Ply Roofing Systems results in a significant reduction in the roof’s surface temperature, promoting greater energy efficiency, more indoor comfort, and lower electricity bills.
It’s no surprise that PVC roofs are the most rapidly growing, long-lasting commercial and residential roofing materials available. And with over two decades of Single Ply roofing installation experience, Exquisite Roofing is proud to offer a wide range of PVC system options.
PVC roofing membrane is a high-performance, versatile sheet ideal for new construction and re-roofing projects. This product gives building owners the best of both worlds, with a superior puncture and tear-resistant membrane that is chemical and UV resistant.
PVC is reinforced with a fiberglass or polyester scrim, which improves its physical properties and makes it one of the highest-performing roofing membranes on the market.
They are specially designed to withstand ponding water. Ponding water will not affect the performance or warranty of PVC single-ply membranes because moisture will not pass through the membrane. These membranes are manufactured in labor-saving 5’-, 6’-, and 10’-foot widths, providing the building owner with a roof that has 67 percent fewer seams than comparable Modified Bitumen roofs.
Because of its highly reflective white color, this product will contribute to LEED® credit requirements in new construction, and it is Title 24 compliant on all re-roofs. Installing a PVC or KEE single ply roofing system directly over most existing membranes eliminates the need to add to landfills and causes minimal disruption to building occupants.
Furthermore, PVC and KEE membranes are the most fire-resistant of any roofing membrane, providing additional protection for the building and its occupants. Choosing a PVC roofing system for your structure will help to ensure a long service life and excellent performance.
PVC and KEE bright white roofing membranes have high reflectivity, which helps save on air conditioning costs, lower total operating costs, and keep the building and its occupants cool.
PVC and KEE membranes are also highly fire-resistant; in the event of a fire, the PVC will self-extinguish when the ignition source is removed, reducing the possibility of the fire spreading to other areas of the building.
PVC and KEE roofing membranes are reinforced with tenacious polyester or fiberglass reinforcing fabrics, which improve resistance to punctures and tears caused by routine foot traffic.
According to the ASTM D4434 PVC Standard, PVC and KEE are classified as Type IV – the most robust/highest rating available. The majority of TPO membranes are only rated as Type III. Many manufacturers provide a puncture resistance warranty and a 0% exclusion for standing water.
Because PVC and KEE membranes are available in 5′, 6′, 10′, and 12′ widths, they are quick and easy to apply, allowing installations to be completed quickly and with little disruption to the occupants. PVC and KEE single ply roofing membranes offer the most systems to meet any need, including fully adhered and mechanically fastened assemblies.
PVC and KEE membranes are readily available at nearly every roofing supply store across the country, allowing quick delivery to job sites.

Commercial Shingle Roofing
If you own a commercial or industrial building and need a new roof, you’ll find plenty of old and new options.
When you meet with an Exquisite roofing contractor, you’ll most likely be told that asphalt shingles are one of your options. It’s good to learn more about asphalt shingles and their benefits.
Various Types of Roofing Shingles
Modern shingle roofing is classified into dimensional, strip, and premium. Because each type has its own set of characteristics and appearance, one shingle type that looks good for apartment roofing may not be a good fit for multifamily homes.
Dimensional shingles are the most popular choice for industrial and commercial property owners. These shingles are the heaviest and thickest, which you may prefer if you want your roof to appear to have layers.
Another distinguishing feature of dimensional shingles is that they frequently come with warranties that match the durability of the shingles themselves.
If you want a roof with a protective flair, premium shingles can be a great choice. These shingles can be shaped to resemble traditional shingle styles such as shake and slate.
You can choose to imbue these shingles with unique features that reflect UV rays or make them more impact-resistant.
You may be interested in the unique benefits that asphalt shingle roofing provides for commercial and industrial businesses now that you know more about your options with this type of roofing.
Compared to other materials, asphalt shingles are among the most affordable. As you can see from the examples above, there are many asphalt shingle options to choose from, making it simple to find the ideal option no matter your style.
Asphalt shingles are quick and straightforward to install, saving you time and money. The best results are obtained when the professionals install your shingles at Exquisite Roofing
Organic roofing may be the way to go if you want a highly durable roof that will last you and your property for a long time.
These shingles are paper waste mixed with asphalt, with adhesive salt and ceramic particles added on top. There are also fiberglass asphalt shingles made from a combination of asphalt, glass fiber, and mineral fillers to provide superior fire protection.
In addition to our years of experience and expertise, Exquisite Roofing provides the following services:
  • High-quality roofing materials that will last and meet the aesthetic requirements of your facility.
  • Competitive pricing ensures that your new roof installation or repair will be within your budget.
  • Superior craftsmanship ensures that the job is done correctly and will last a long time.
  • Excellent customer service at every step of the way — at Exquisite Roofing installer, the client always comes first.
Commercial Roof Insurance and Replacements
The roof, arguably, has the most direct exposure to the elements of any part of your home. There is the threat of heavy snow, hail, or ice storms in northern climates. Tornadoes and cyclones are also common in many areas.
There is the possibility of gales and hurricane-force winds in tropical climates. Mother Nature can not only cause direct damage, but it can also cause indirect damage, such as a violent windstorm that topples a tree onto your roof. Wildfires may erupt. Or there could be more unlikely incidents, such as something falling from the sky onto the roof, such as debris from an explosion or an aircraft.
Fortunately, the roof is an integral part of your home’s structure and, thus, the dwelling. As a result, the dwelling coverage section of your homeowners’ insurance policy should protect you against such perils. Damage and destruction caused by such events entitle the homeowner to a total or partial roof replacement.
Why choose Exquisite Roofing?
There are numerous reasons why you should hire a roofing company.
To be honest, our company can provide all of the roofing services you may require. And, of course, business owners are welcome to contact us. We have a team of skilled commercial roofing contractors on hand.

Tools and Equipment of the Present
Roof Replacement employs cutting-edge equipment and tools. We work safely and efficiently. Furthermore, we only use parts and materials from manufacturers who have proven their dependability.
Transferable warranty
Of course, we provide a comprehensive warranty on all of our services. The best part is that if you sell your property, the warranty is automatically transferred to the new owner.
Inexpensive service
We understand how important cost is to you. Our services are very reasonably priced, so you get the most for your money.
Special Roof Coverage Considerations
Coverage is likely if a dramatic event causes dramatic damage—the roof collapsing, having a significant hole, or being torn off entirely. More problematic are cases where the damage is less dramatic, even if caused by a natural disaster.
Assume a powerful thunderstorm nicks a number of your roof’s shingles. The insurance company may classify this as cosmetic damage and refuse to pay for it.
You notice your roof has become leaky due to the storm mentioned above. Even if the rains caused it, the insurance company might claim it’s a general wear-and-tear issue, reflecting your roof’s gradual deterioration, which is never covered. Ironically, any water damage caused by a leaking roof to your walls, floors, or furniture would most likely be repaired.
You need to contact our expert roofers at Exquisite Roofing to avail a hassle-free service for your roof repair or replacement service. Call us now!
